“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years. “So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty.
Have you ever felt that God has left you out in the desert alone and has forgotten all about you? In the messiest and loneliest of times, have you felt that God has forgotten your address but satan knows exactly where you live? Yeah, me too! The bible says that God refines us, He burns away the impurities to make us more like Christ for His glory. When you think God has left you, He is actually at work in the mess.
He takes you out of your comfort zone and into the desert to show you how little control you actually have. We know God is at work when trials and tribulations hit us. We can't see the underlying work He is doing behind the scenes in our lives. We don't know what He is doing until we are out of the desert and experiencing the glorious plans He was putting in place for our good. What WE think WE want, is not always was God wants for us.
God tells us to rejoice in our sufferings - suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character and through that hope will be established. It is just like someone who is starting to exercise and workout again. The muscle soreness is proof that your muscles are working to breakdown to create stronger muscles, but we must endure the "suffering" of the muscle soreness in order to reap the benefits of a stronger body.
The next time you are in the desert and feeling all alone, remember that God is in the middle of the mess and just hold on because He is working behind the scenes to work everything out for YOUR good and HIS glory!
