This is such an easy thing to say when everything is going good in your life. Your kids are healthy, you are healthy, your spouse is healthy, you have plenty of money to pay the bills, you have a roof over your head, food on your table, etc. But what happens when things don't go exactly as planned? What happens when you lose/quit your job, health issues rise up, your savings account is dwindling, your cars break down, the plans that YOU made for your future are not unfolding as you thought they would, you lose family members unexpectedly, your marriage has struggles due to past mistakes you have made, looking and applying for jobs with no offers, and the list just goes on.
Welcome to my world! That is exactly the season that I am going through right at this moment and have been for the past year. That's right! Me, Shannon Wright, is experiencing this season in life right now as we speak (or write!). I resigned from my teaching job of 10 years, my husband resigned from his teaching job of 16 years, packed up our family and moved 2.5 hours away from everything we knew in Nashville, starting our life fresh and new from the mistakes made in the Nashville area. We purchased a commercial building in Dayton, TN so I could open up my own women's fitness facility. I have been in the fitness business for over 20 years and thought that this would be a great opportunity to take my fitness business to the next level. Seven months prior to opening the gym, The Lord calls me into ministry.......WHAT?!?!? BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT I HAD PLANNED FOR MY LIFE!! I was supposed to be the next Jillian Michaels, I was supposed to get every woman in the area in shape and live a healthier, happier life! God, how can you take that plan away from me?
You can make plans for your life, but The Lord will guide your steps. That is a huge thing that I have learned in this season of chiseling and waiting. I can want what I want all I want, but He has the final say. During this season of waiting I have been able to spend a lot of time with my kids that I had not had before. I have been able to dedicate more time to my church and grow spiritually in The Lord. I have learned that everything is in The Lords timing, not mine. And I have the time to pursue my Lay Minister Certification that I would not have, otherwise, had time for if I had a full-time job away from home.
In regards to finances, The Lord has more than provided our financial needs just in time. Just when we thought we were going to have to dive into our savings account and teaching retirement, The Lord came through in a mighty way to where I do not have to sit up and worry at night how we will pay for next month's bills without having to reach into our retirement. I was planning on going to find a job and take whatever opened up the quickest, God's plan for me or not, but I no longer have to worry about that. Praise The Lord! He is on time, every time! I now have the time and ability to accept speaking engagements and book promotions anywhere He leads me to go. The traveling expenses and the time speaking and ministering have been paid for in full by our almighty God!
If you are experiencing a season of wondering where you should go from here or what steps you need to take, just wait on The Lord and listen for His voice to guide you where you need to go. As difficult as it is, BE PATIENT and WAIT ON THE LORD because His plans are greater than yours will ever be!
