As for myself and many people in the bible, we experience surrender when we are going through a battle or one of the toughest times in our lives. For me, I surrendered when I was in the worst pit of my life. Victory comes through surrender. Surrender doesn’t mean you are weak or lazy; it strengthens you and makes you become the person God wants you to be. When you surrender to God, you never have to fear or surrender to anything else.
Surrendered people are the ones God uses, PRAISE GOD! God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus, not because she was talented or wealthy, but because she was totally surrendered to Him. When God revealed His plan to her, she was more than happy and obedient to take on the task. Nothing is more powerful than a surrendered life in the hands of God. So give yourselves completely to God.
Everybody eventually surrenders to someone or something. If it is not to God that you are surrendered to, it may be a person, money, fear, pride, resentment, lusts, or ego. We were designed to worship God – if we fail to worship Him, we will find ourselves worshipping something else and creating idols of our own. We are free to choose what we surrender to, but we will have to be faced with the consequences of our choices. If you don’t surrender to Christ, you surrender to chaos.
Surrender is not the BEST way to live, is the ONLY way to live. Nothing else will work. Other approaches will only lead to destruction, chaos, frustration, disappointment and self-destruction. You must give it all to God – your past problems, past regrets, present problems, fears, desires and dreams. Put Christ in the driver’s seat of your life and take your hands off the steering wheel. Don’t be afraid; nothing under His control can be out of control.
In the bible, Paul’s moment of surrender was on the road to Damascus. Not every moment of surrender is as dramatic as his and mine. But it is not about MOMENTS of surrender, it is about a LIFE of surrender. You may have to surrender many times a day, but living a life of surrender means you are that much closer to God. You must make it a daily habit.
WARNING: Living a surrendered life is a decision that is tested. Sometimes it will mean doing inconvenient, unpopular, costly or seemingly impossible tasks. It will often mean doing the opposite of what you feel like doing. But you must live a life of obedience to endure to the end.
Now is your time to surrender to God’s wisdom, grace, peace, freedom and salvation!
